Lauren Cohan and Scott Foley delight in Whiskey Cavalier, a show that never slows down from the get go. But can this high octane fun last?

Whiskey Cavalier is one of those shows that starts off with a bang and never lets up throughout the episode. But can this thrilling new drama starring The Walking Dead alum Lauren Cohan maintain its momentum?

Spoilers for the series premiere of Whiskey Cavalier

For anyone who enjoys a good spy drama, whodunit or quasi-procedural, there’s something to enjoy with Whiskey Cavalier. There’s also beautiful scenery (the show was shot in Europe) and undeniable chemistry between stars Cohan as Frankie Trowbridge, code name Fiery Tribune, and Scott Foley as Will Chase, aka Whiskey Cavalier.

The premiere episode has Trowbridge and Chase tracking the same perp but from different teams. Trowbridge is CIA and Chase is FBI, and though they represent the same country they have different agendas and different toys. Their target is Edgar Standish, played by fellow TWD alum Tyler James Williams (Noah, who met his tragic end in a revolving door of walkers). Standish is an NSA agents suspected of turning against his country, but all is not what it seems.

By the end of the thrilling episode there are a few surprises that lead to the formation of a new team headed up by Trowbridge and Chase, and it’s their partnership that forms the basis for the show.

The premiere was fun to watch, with non-stop action and enough twists and turns to keep viewers riveted. Of concern is the fact that the premiere featured Chase and Trowbridge battling each other to apprehend the target. What will the show be like when they’re working together? True, their chemistry is entertaining; like two magnets with opposing polarities, they’re convinced that there is no chemistry between them when it’s already evident.

ABC has a lot riding on Whiskey Cavalier’s success, which is why they gave it an early push with a special premiere following the Oscars as well as an encore on its regular night and time (Wednesdays at 10pm) in case anyone missed it.

All in all Whiskey Cavalier is entertaining, with a great cast and an interesting (though slightly overused) premise. However, it has an uphill battle to maintain the momentum that the premiere created. If Whiskey Cavalier can maintain that momentum week to week then viewers are in for one heck of a ride!
