Undead Walking had a chance to talk with director Michael E. Satrazemis, who shared his insight about The Walking Dead episode “Guardians.”

Director Michael E. Satrazemis the man behind some of the most memorable episodes of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. Most recently Satrazemis directed the season 9 mid-season finale of The Walking Dead that introduced the Whisperers, and now he’s back behind the cameras with “Guardians” to introduce the horrors of Whisperer culture.

Satrazemis exudes enthusiasm when it comes to his work and getting to spend time with this amazing cast, and the first thing talked about was his appreciation for the magic of Samantha Morton’s performance.

(Sarabeth Pollock): After watching my screener of “Guardians” I joked that I had to go look at hedgehogs on Instagram because the episode was so dark and unsettling.

(Michael Satrazemis): I’d like to give Samantha Morton a lot of credit. She is something special to work with. I love her process, I love her energy, I love how structured she is and how deep she goes. I mean, you lose her half the time with that mask on. We could be talking about performance things and with that mask on it’s terrifying. It’s so distracting. She’s amazing.
