4. The Highwaymen for hire

The death of Jesus and the impact of the Whisperers is echoing through the Hilltop as well as Alexandria but the Kingdom got their own kind of trouble when they received an extortion letter from a group calling themselves the Highwaymen.

Their letter included a list of things they would need in order to allow other communities to use the roads to reach the fair. However, the Kingdom didn’t have the resources to spare and didn’t want to get in the habit of paying the group for use of the roads.

Efforts to change the situation worked well, with the Highwaymen becoming employees of the Hilltop in exchange for use of the Kingdom as well as the ability to watch movies in the community.

The move by the Kingdom paid off immediately. The Highwaymen appeared on the road to help the group from the Hilltop when roads were blocked and the group becomes overrun by walkers. There’s no telling what losses the Hilltop would have had if not for the Highwaymen appearing on the scene.
