Sarah Wayne Callies to direct an episode of Fear the Walking Dead
Sarah Wayne Callies, former star of The Walking Dead, is crossing over to Fear the Walking Dead to direct an episode in the show’s upcoming season 5.
Sarah Wayne Callies is returning to The Walking Dead universe as she steps behind the camera to direct an episode of Fear the Walking Dead in the show’s fifth season. The news came in an interview with ISA, as reported by ComicBook.
Callies, who played Lori Grimes, has been gone from The Walking Dead since season 3 but her influence on the show lives on as Judith Grimes represents and honors her mother, father and brother.
This isn’t Callies’ first time behind the camera. She directed an episode of Colony in season 3.
Callies will join an elite group of cast members who have made the leap to directing shows in The Walking Dead universe. Colman Domingo has the distinction of being the first actor currently starring in Fear the Walking Dead to direct an episode of the show in season 4.
Alum Michael Cudlitz directed a season 9 episode of The Walking Dead, marking the first time an actor from the show appeared behind the camera. Andrew Lincoln has indicated plans to direct in season 10 and he has been seen on The Walking Dead set learning the tools of the trade from his peers.
It makes perfect sense that Callies would direct an episode of Fear the Walking Dead. She was recently attached to an upcoming NBC pilot, Council of Dads, which will go into production soon. The Walking Dead is wrapping up season 9 production while Fear the Walking Dead is still shooting, so there are more opportunities for her to jump in before starting work on her pilot.
While there’s no word when her episode will air, it will definitely be nice having Callies back to work in The Walking Dead universe.
Fear the Walking Dead will return in Summer 2019.
