Are the Highwaymen another group that can be added to the community roster or will they be gone by the end of the season? Our panel weighs in.

On The Walking Dead this week while Daryl, Connie, and the kids were fighting Beta and the Whisperers the Kingdom was dealing with another type of threat. They managed to neutralize the Highwaymen’s threat and turn the group into asset by putting them to work pulling security duty for the people coming to the fair, but will that last?

The Highwaymen are an odd group. They don’t seem like a huge threat. If anything they seem like they could be a real asset to any group that they join. Why haven’t they joined another group? They obviously need supplies and they have skills so it would seem to make sense for them to join a community. If they know where the Kingdom is why didn’t they just ask to join instead of threatening the Kingdom in order to get supplies?

There are more questions than answers about the Highwaymen and what their role will be moving forward. The Kingdom is on pretty shaky ground right now so they might not have the resources to take in a big group right now, even if they need the extra manpower. But with a battle clearly on the way between the survivors and the Whisperers the addition of the Highwaymen to the ranks of the community fighters might be important. Our panel has some thoughts on this new mysterious group:

Thoughts About The Highwaymen

What do you think about the new group called “The Highwaymen” who were introduced in this episode?

Sonya says:

"I don’t know what to think of these guys. Their appearance isn’t by chance, they are definitely setting these guys up to play some kind of role going forward but what that role is I don’t know. It would be kind of interesting if the group worked for all the communities keeping the roads safe so that the communities could trade and visit all the time and all the communities together paid them with supplies. But they also could just be cannon fodder for the Whisperer War. I don’t know."

Sara says:

"The Highwaymen definitely seem like an interesting group of people! I’m curious to find out exactly what their story is and how that will play out in the show further on. They did come to the rescue when the Hilltop were being attacked by walkers so they earned some points with me there!"

Jeffrey says:

"The Highwaymen kinda came out of nowhere and I’m not entirely sure what to think of them. Their introduction really reminded me of the Saviors in that they were almost playing a game with our survivors before demanding that they pay them. They don’t seem to be too much of a threat presently being that Carol seems to have bought their loyalty with a movie, but I do worry that they may try to switch sides or betray the Kingdom in the future. After the moves Jadis and the Scavengers pulled, I’m hesitant to trust people like this."

Sarabeth says:

"I really liked the Highwaymen. I like the idea of vigilante guardian angels watching over the roads, and I respect that their requests were for things like books. I hope they stick around. I think they could be really useful given the distance between the communities."
