Helping Lydia would be a part of Rick Grimes’ plan for the future

Rick Grimes had a plan for a better future at the beginning of season 9 of The Walking Dead, and that plan would no doubt include helping Lydia escape her toxic situation.

Even though Rick Grimes is no longer a part of The Walking Dead, well just on the show at least, his presence is still very much felt at this point in the story. At the beginning of season 9, Rick Grimes worked closely with the other communities to achieve balance and trust between them in order to have a brighter future. After coming out of a war with the Saviors, Rick held onto Carl’s dream for helping everyone come together in order to pave the way for a better future. Everyone deserves a better future, including Lydia.

Even though Rick Grimes has never met Lydia, he no doubt would want to help her escape the toxic and abusive situation that she is in. Rick had told his people at the beginning of the season how important it was that they come together and help each other.  Since there is no one able to help Lydia in her own group, that means someone from the outside is obviously going to have to help her escape.

Of course, saving Lydia and hiding her around various communities is extremely dangerous and it would for sure make the communities Whisperers bate. It just seems so wrong to allow Lydia to go back to her toxic environment now that the other survivors know who she is and what she has been through. If Rick were still here, I don’t think that he would ever let Lydia return back with the other Whisperers. He would find a way to keep her safe and keep his people safe as well. Although with a threat as big as the Whisperers, it’s inevitable that trouble is coming, but does that mean that Lydia should go back to her abusive life? There has to be a way to help Lydia to safety, as well as find a way to take down the Whisperers. No one should have to go back to that kind of abusive life when there are people ready and willing to help them.

It seems like Daryl and the rest of the group aren’t ready to give Lydia up as yet. They really want to help her, and knowing how strong-hearted and tough they are, Lydia will be in good hands if the Whisperers do come back for her. It looks like in the next episode titled “Scars”, Lydia and the group find their way back to Alexandria. It will be interesting to see if the Alexandria council will allow Lydia to stay there permanently after hearing her story.
