35. Nevada

I like Nevada’s odds of surviving a zombie apocalypse. Nevada, despite the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas and Reno, still has a great deal of the Wild West in its roots and that means a higher shot at adapting and surviving a zombie apocalypse.

Nevada has a lot going for it. You know those places you see advertised all over Vegas where you can fire machine guns at a range? Think of all the ammunition you can grab. Pawn shops will also be a great source of supplies. There are tons of malls and shops and places to get everything you need that you’ll be in a good place once you find a place to settle.

Once the initial terror has subsided, heading to the nearest casino isn’t a bad idea. They’re all over the state, for one, and they will provide shelter during the hot summers. You’ll need water, so the pools and lakes around the resorts can be used to catch rainwater when the wet winter arrives. You’ll need it.

Even with places like Carson City, Reno and Las Vegas, which are heavily populated, the state still has a lot of open space. If you can tolerate the heat that comes for the better part of the year, and the cold that arrives in winter, then Nevada might be the place for you.
