28. Arkansas

Arkansas is nestled in the Ozark region, and the state is covered with natural treasures including mountains, caves and rivers that will be helpful for when the zombies arrive. One thing to consider about some areas in Arkansas are the tornadoes that have been known to strike, and without early warning systems you’ll be on your own if a tornado hits.

Continuing on our theme of holing up in historic buildings, if you’re in Arkansas when the zombies rise from the dead then you should consider heading to Eureka Springs. The town is tucked into the wilderness, which means there will be plentiful hunting and fishing opportunities. There are also Victorian hotels that will make splendid shelters because they are so remote, and the proximity to the hot springs will make it so that even without power you’ll have hot water. And hot water is quite the amenity in the zombie apocalypse.

If it’s hot springs that you’re after, then the town of Hot Springs will be just what you need after a long day of fighting the undead. Hot Springs Mountain sounds like a great place to hide, and if you’re looking for a nice place to call home the buildings in Bathhouse Row would be easy to secure.
