50 States and DC ranked by Zombie Apocalypse survivability
13. South Dakota
If you happen to be in South Dakota when the apocalypse arrives, you have some options. South Dakota is full of national parks and resorts, so there is plenty of open space and places to seek shelter.
Badlands National Park is an example of a place where you could build a cabin and have a clear view of the surrounding landscape to make sure there aren’t any zombies approaching.
Sturgis is the home of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August, and if you find yourself there you might be able to “borrow” a motorcycle and get out of there before the zombies arrive. Sure, they’re noisy, but they go fast and they’ll get you out of danger quickly. If you can modify the tank to run on ethanol, so much the better.
The Missouri River runs through the capital city of Pierre, so there you’ll find boats and places to fish. The river is a great way to travel if you needed to get away from zombies in a hurry. And of course there’s Deadwood, where you’ll find Victorian homes that would make the perfect places to stay. You’ll need the motorcycle to get around the area, though, because things are pretty spread out in South Dakota.
