50 States and DC ranked by Zombie Apocalypse survivability
11. North Dakota
North Dakota is quite different from South Dakota in terms of resources. North Dakota is much better situated for people who want to ride out the apocalypse in the great outdoors.
The Theodore Roosevelt National Park is a great place to take up residence. It’s on the Little Missouri River (so you can go back and forth between North and South Dakota) and that means lots of fishing and hunting. If you’re an avid hunter, the elk and bison are plentiful so a few of those could get you through the winter.
Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park is a re-creation of one of General Custer’s outposts. These outposts provide a look at the surrounding area, and even though Custer wasn’t looking for zombies they will provide you with a shelter that offers a tactical advantage in the fight to survive.
The down side to all of the open space is that you will need to become self-sufficient if you’re going to make it. There aren’t a lot of places for supply runs, so that means you need to stock up and figure out how to live on the land. It’s not impossible to do, but it’s going to take some motivation to make it happen.
