9. Oklahoma

Like all states in Tornado Alley, Oklahoma is prone to tornadoes and if you’re not prepared if could be even more dangerous than being left out in the elements with the zombies. It’s entirely ok for the tornadoes to pick up the zombies, though.

If you’re going to settle in Oklahoma during the zombie apocalypse, make sure you have a basement. While Alicia and Charlie got stuck in the basement during a hurricane in season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead, a basement would be your best chance of surviving a tornado. There won’t be any emergency services during an apocalypse, and that means no sirens and nothing to alert you that a tornado is imminent. You need to learn how to read the signs and be alert.

Oklahoma City is where you’ll find the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. This would be the holy grail of museums, because you’ll find all of the things you’ll need to live on the land the way the cowboys did in the past. Grab your saddles, saddlebags, lassoes and anything else you might need…or just take up residence in the museum itself. Keep your horses nearby. Why not?
