50 States and DC ranked by Zombie Apocalypse survivability
3. Alaska
Fans of Steve Niles’ 30 Days of Night know that vampires love Alaska because of the lack of sunlight during certain times of the year. But what about zombies? Can zombies handle below freezing temperatures? Probably.
They might be hampered by the snow, but they won’t be bothered by the temperatures. That’s good for you…but it’s also really bad. It will slow them down, but a herd of zombies can still be a problem. You can feel those temps and if you get left outside in the middle of a zombie fight you’d better find a way to stay warm during the cold months or you might succumb to the zombies and the elements.
However, you can use ice to your advantage. Use it to trap zombies. Create a barrier to your shelter using holes in the ice. Get creative. There are plenty of ice fishing lodges out there, so find a safe shelter and make use of your natural defenses.
There’s lots of great fishing and hunting in Alaska, and if you can find the supplies to preserve your meats and veggies (learn canning before the apocalypse begins, as that will be very useful) then you will have plentiful food supplies for when you can’t go outside.
