47. Georgia

Georgia might be the most well-known location when it comes to surviving a zombie apocalypse, but just because it works for The Walking Dead doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily a great place to actually ride out the end of the civilized world.

Or maybe it is.

Thanks to the show, which films in Georgia, we know that the cities fell apart pretty quickly but survivors found shelter in the rural areas. Lots of people died trying to get out of the city, so avoid highways if you’re trying to leave, or get on a horse and ride away if you can commandeer a horse. (The image of Rick Grimes riding on the empty side of the freeway with the abandoned cars on the other side will forever be etched into our brains.)

It would seem that the best places to survive in Georgia are in the country, away from the cities. Summer heat will make being near water important, but try to build your shelter in a remote location because there will always be someone trying to come along and take it.
