50 States and DC ranked by Zombie Apocalypse survivability
46. Hawaii
Hawaii is another one of those places that is really good and really bad when it comes to making it through a zombie apocalypse. As an island, supplies will be finite and no more will be coming. You can’t reach the mainland very easily. On the other hand, if you can clear the island of zombies, you’ve got a relative safe haven. (Just keep an eye out for people who die in their sleep)
Zombies aside, Hawaii has the kind of climate that will allow for the cultivation of just about every kind of cop you could want, so growing food will be easy. There’s a good balance of open space and city centers, so finding somewhere to take shelter shouldn’t be a problem. Just be sure to avoid the steep cliffs where a herd of zombies might chase you, leaving you with little choice but to jump into the ocean to escape. And the last thing you need is a hike back up the big hills.
There’s another possibility, of course, and that’s the availability of boats. Hawaii’s thriving tourism industry means that there are cruise ships aplenty, along with private boats. With the right weather, you might be able to sail out and live on a boat, coming back to the mainland to harvest crops. Or you can live on a boat. Start a floating community. Hawaii has a surprising amount of options, but you have to avoid the zombies first.
