Can The Walking Dead survivors beat the Whisperers?

Daryl beat Beta after a spectacular fight on The Walking Dead this week but does that mean the survivors have a chance to beat the Whisperers? See what our panel thinks.

The Walking Dead delivered a fantastic showdown between Beta and Daryl this week but if Beta’s fighting skill and Alpha’s ruthlessness are indicative of how the Whisperers fight the survivors are going to have their work cut out for them to beat the Whisperers. They might have finally come across a group that they cannot beat.

Alpha is a cunning and cruel monster and Beta is a beast who survived a fall down an elevator shaft. The survivors now have Alpha’s daughter and it’s safe to assume that Alpha’s not going to allow that because it makes her look weak if her daughter runs away to join another group. So when Alpha and Beta launch a full scale attack on the survivors at the various communities will those communities be able to stand against the Whisperers?

It’s hard to say if the survivors have what it takes to beat the Whisperers because it’s not just the humans the survivors will have to fight. The Whisperers can put on their masks and disappear into herds of walkers. If they do that the survivors would have to fight through huge numbers of walkers to find the Whisperers among them. And fighting that much increases the chances that they might get bitten, and it also exhausts them so that they will have no strength left to fight when they find the Whisperers among the walkers. Our panel members had some interesting thoughts on whether or not the community members will be strong enough to fight off the Whisperers:

Survivors Vs. Whisperers

Daryl was able to defeat Beta in the fight, even though Beta is still alive. Do you think that the rest of the survivors will be able to defeat the Whisperers overall?

Sonya says:

"Honestly I think they have a 50/50 chance. Their ranks are thinned and they don’t have the numbers of fighters they used to have. The Whisperers are fierce fighters with no humanity and that’s a pretty terrifying thing to face. It’s possible that the survivors can still beat the Whisperers but they are going to need to get creative to do it and they are going to have to a very difficult and bloody battle ahead."

Sara says:

"Daryl Dixon is one of the toughest characters on the show. I know when you are on his bad side, you’d be glad not to show up again. I really do think that our group can take the Whisperers down. They were able to take down Negan and the Saviors as well as so many other villians in the past. However, I fear that a lot of deaths are looming within the near future."

Jeffrey says:

"The Whisperers are an incredibly difficult threat because of how they disguise themselves. The fight between Daryl and Beta was slightly different seeing as how Beta was alone and wasn’t trying to hide among the dead. I worry about our survivors fighting them when actual real walkers are involved. We saw how easy it was for the Whisperers to kill Jesus, who was one of our best fighters. I definitely think our people will be successful in the end, but there’s going to be a hard fight before then."

Sarabeth says:

"If the survivors are going to defeat the Whisperers they need to stop hesitating. Daryl had a chance to kill Beta before he even came into the building. He could have shot him outside, but he didn’t. The group needs to be much smarter about the Whisperers, because hesitation will lead to death."
