Danai Gurira not named, then added to Avengers: Endgame poster
It was a whirlwind day for Danai Gurira and Marvel Studios as fans sought to correct a glaring omission on the newest Avengers: Endgame poster.
Wakanda Forever! The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira has become a big part of the Marvel universe after her role as Okoye of the Dora Milaje in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. But when Marvel Studios rolled out a new trailer and poster for the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, Gurira was the only actor who appeared on the posted without being named. Needless to say, Marvel capitulated quickly.
According to Marvel Studios’ mea culpa, Gurira “should have been up there all this time” which is interesting because her name was definitely not there Thursday morning and it wasn’t until fans pointed out the glaring error that a change was made.
Take one look at the original poster and it’s clear that every single actor who appears on the poster has been named except for Gurira:
After the Twitterverse pointed out the glaring error, a new poster showed up:
Here’s the problem: If Gurira’s name should have been there the whole time, then it would be there. It’s hard to believe that this was a simple error, but Marvel corrected it quickly. (It’s worth noting that they didn’t delete the original tweet with the wrong poster on it)
Glaring error aside, the trailer for Avengers: Endgame looks amazing. Given her expanded role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe it’s easy to understand why Gurira had to make a decision to step away from The Walking Dead in season 10. She’s a major player for Team Black Panther and filming both just won’t work moving forward.
It’s a shame she’s leaving The Walking Dead, too, because Michonne has been a driving force on the show since Rick Grimes disappeared. However, knowing that Michonne’s story might intertwine with Rick’s in the upcoming AMC movies is a huge consolation.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9pm on AMC. Avengers: Endgame flies into theaters on April 26.
