The Walking Dead season 9 episode 14 recap: Scars

The Walking Dead season 9 episode 14 is one of the most powerful episodes of the series. Here’s your complete recap of “Scars.”

“Scars” begins with Michonne riding a horse along a road next to a river. There are walkers in the water and she starts chopping them down once she gets off the horse. Soon she finds a gun in the dirt. It’s Rick’s.

From the look of her pregnant belly she is close to full term.

Daryl shows up and says that he followed that branch of the river to the ocean and back. He hasn’t seen anything. When he asks how she’s doing she reveals that her little one has been “kicking the shit out of” her at 4am daily. It doesn’t matter, because she can’t sleep. Judith has been asking about Daryl, and he promises to come back soon to visit. He wants to keep looking for Rick, though. Michonne asks if he’s okay being alone. He is. She isn’t.

Later Michonne cleans Rick’s gun and places it in a wooden box with Judith’s name on it. She gets up to see Aaron approaching and when she goes outside she tells Judith to watch her brother. We’re back in the present and Aaron tells her that Daryl is at the gate and he isn’t alone.

They climb the ladder and Daryl reveals that Henry is hurt and Alexandria was the closest. Michonne wants to know about Lydia, but Henry says she’s with them. Aaron says they can’t trust her, but Michonne trusts Daryl’s judgement.

Back in the past, the gate opens to reveal a group of strangers with Rosita. One of them, a woman named Jocelyn, knows Michonne.

Siddiq stitches Henry’s leg while Lydia comforts him. Michonne is outside with Daryl asking what the plan is. He knows he needs to get back to the Kingdom to let Carol know what’s going on, but he can’t go back directly. Not yet, anyway, because he knows it’s not safe. Connie lets Michonne know that they didn’t really have a plan, as evidenced by her choice in footwear. Michonne smiles. Connie is grateful for everything Michonne has done to welcome them, but as she walks away Michonne instructs everyone to watch Lydia closely.

Aaron reports that it doesn’t look like Daryl’s group was followed. Daryl knows better than to leave tracks. But still, Aaron points out that it won’t be long until they are discovered if the Whisperers are out there looking for them.

Back in the past, Jocelyn flees Siddiq’s facility because she wants to go back out to find the other people in her group. She’s almost delirious. Michonne asks what she needs. She says she needs help.

Michonne, Rosita, Gabriel, Eugene and a team of fighters go with Jocelyn’s group to an old building. Inside there are posters with instructions for skinning a deer and cooking rabbits. A series of whistles reveals that there are a bunch of children inside.
