It’s hard to imagine a situation where the protagonist in a situation would be commended for killing a group of children, but that is exactly what happened when Michonne was trying to get her daughter back.
After being branded by her abductors and fighting her way out of the school, Michonne was faced with more kids charging her with weapons. She didn’t seem to want to fight back. In fact, killing kids is something nobody with a moral thought would ever want to.
However, in this situation, she was justified. The hardened fighter eliminated many of the kids, allowing only one to escape and leaving the rest sliced into tiny bits while trying to hold back her emotion.
She was able to get Judith and the other kids back, but it was obvious her actions have taken a massive toll on her. With those kills as well as the backstabbing and branding, the reason behind her being so cold finally made sense.
