Be prepared for the long haul with The Walking Dead episode 915, “The Calm Before.” The penultimate episode of the season clocks in at 85 minutes.

The Walking Dead showrunners know that they have a lot of story to get out in the final two episodes of the season, and so the penultimate episode of season 9 will have a supersized 85 minute run time.

If you’re watching without commercials, “The Calm Before” clocks in at about 58 minutes. It’s a powerful episode that has some big moments for the story and for individual characters, and it will go down as one of the biggest game-changing episodes of the series. Make sure that if you’re setting your DVR to watch the episode that you extend the end time, if your DVR doesn’t do it automatically, to ensure that the last segment doesn’t get left off. That would be awful, because this episode is one heck of a ride.

With the extended run time and massive scope, the episode feels more like a movie. Many fans are anxiously awaiting an emotional episode and “The Calm Before” certainly delivers all kind of emotions. It has some very powerful interactions between characters that are incredibly important for the story as it continues into the season finale.

Tension has been mounting since the discovery of the Whisperers at the end of the first half of the season. Losing Jesus was a shocking blow to the communities, but there was no time to focus on his loss because the threat of the Whisperers loomed. Daryl recognized that Lydia was innocent and wanted to protect her, as did Henry, and this only led to further complications with the newest villains to encroach upon the survivors.
