Overall impression

I’ll be honest, I needed a few minutes to compose myself after this episode to talk to my friends only and get them through this episode. But after taking a bit to think about things, I’m still not really ready to move forward.

Full disclosure, I have enjoyed the story arcs of Tara as well as Enid since they were introduced on the series and really wanted to see what the future held for Lydia and Henry. That said, this episode was a massive punch in the gut even though comic readers knew something like this was coming.

Now, on to the rest of the episode. Bringing the communities together had to happen eventually and seeing them planning for the future and interacting gave hope that the fracture between them is no more. And they will need to band together if they want to defeat the Whisperers and their massive army of the undead.

There were some great performances during this episode, most notably Samantha Morton as Alpha, Khary Payton as King Ezekiel, and Cassady McClincy as Lydia. However, this episode was wonderfully acted all around and the cast, crew, and direction were all wonderful.

On a side note, if you didn’t have any emotional response to watching Carol break down, you’re not human. With everything that woman has been through, it’s hard to believe she’s still standing and fighting. Melissa McBride is amazing and she shines in every single scene she is in.

As a whole, this episode was shocking and provided a great mix of happy moments with a lot of horrifying and deeply saddening imagery. It warrants multiple views for the hints at the pike victims and to have the show toy with our emotions again.

EPISODE GRADE: 9.7/10

By the way, AMC needs to stop putting Into The Badlands on between The Walking Dead and Talking Dead. Not cool, AMC…especially with an episode this powerful.

I’d love to say I enjoyed this episode, but that’s really not the right word. Season 9 episode 15 of The Walking Dead delivered a gut punch after showing so much positivity and hope. This is what the show is all about and the buildup to this moment was a great payoff. Now, the only question that remains is how the show will finish the season next week!
