Thanks to Henry, Lydia can call Alexandria home on The Walking Dead
By Sara Khan
After Henry had first met Lydia, he was on a mission to bring her to safety, and because of his persistent efforts, she now has a new home on The Walking Dead.
We sadly said goodbye to so many brave characters in Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead titled “The Calm Before”. Henry was among Alpha’s victims who she had killed and put on pikes in a field. It was deeply tragic to lose Henry, someone who had such a valiant journey since the second half of this season began.
Henry was relentless in bringing Lydia to safety after finding out about the abusive situation she was in. Henry wasn’t alone though in his rescue mission to bring Lydia to safety, Daryl, Connie, and Dog joined in along the way. They all kept Lydia protected and safe until they were able to bring her back to Alexandria. While keeping Lydia in Alexandria wasn’t an option that was so openly accepted before, The Alexandria council later decided that Lydia would get to stay in Alexandria permanently. Michonne even realized that similarly to Lydia, she as well as the other survivors wanted to choose a home different from the ones they came from. She stated it wonderfully:
"Lydia didn’t choose where she came from, but she chose where she wanted to be."
Michonne is absolutely right. Lydia never wanted to live as a Whisperer and endure any more abuse, she wanted a way out. She was so lucky to come across Henry, a kind and caring individual who knew he had to help Lydia find a safe place out of her abusive situation.
While Henry is sadly no longer a part of the show anymore, his spirit will live through his final and valiant act, helping Lydia find a new and safe home. Henry was one of those characters in The Walking Dead who brought a lot of heart to the show. Similarly like Glenn, Henry was selfless and knew that no matter who it is, everyone needs to be helped.
Would you have done what Henry did in order to save Lydia?
You can catch the season 9 finale of The Walking Dead airing on AMC on Sunday.
