No. 5: Rick Enlightens the Alexandria Community

Season 5, Episode 15: “Try”

The early days of Alexandria were tough on everyone, but especially Rick. This community was so sheltered from the horrors outside of the wall, that they hadn’t really changed much since this whole thing started. It was frightening for the group to see this, and honestly, for the audience too. So naive these guys were.

There was one person that Rick seemed to be drawn to in Alexandria and her name was Jessie. Something about her was illuminating to him, but there was just one problem–she was a married woman. But that wasn’t as monumental as the fact that she was beaten by her husband, Pete. This man was as horrible as they come, and a thorn in everyone’s side.

Rick attempted to take this to the leader of Alexandria, Deanna, who confessed everyone turned a blind eye to Pete’s behavior because he was a surgeon and highly valued. The most Deanna is willing to do is have Pete exiled, but Rick urges this will only make matters worse. When no one would listen to Rick or what he had to say, all hell broke loose, and we mean things got crazy.

Rick took the fight outside, ranting and raving about how bad things were in Alexandria and how much worse they would get if Deanna kept doing this way. This is a very tough moment for Rick but it’s also something that needed to be done. He has a point, and this community is extremely unprepared for what’s out there. He’s scary, he’s frightening, but he’s right–and that’s what disturbs everyone the most.
