No. 3: Rick’s Vicious Side Begins to Show

Season 2, Episode 8: “Nebraska”

The first time Rick Grimes killed a living being in the apocalypse is one we will always remember. At this point, he already learned to deal with walkers and had no problem killing them, but things took a turn when he entered an abandoned bar in season 2. Inside the bar, Hershel was having a drink after the barn massacre. He “lost” his loved ones, he believes, and is having a drink to memorialize their loss–even though they were already dead.

Rick and Daryl convince Hershel to go back to the farm, but they are faced with an obstacle while trying to do so. Two men from Philadelphia walk into the bar (sounds like the beginning of a joke) and demand to know where the farm is. They need a safe place to live, but Rick isn’t about to tell them.

This doesn’t sit well with the men who then proceed to try to kill Rick. Oh silly men, didn’t you realize that was a bad idea? Silly, silly. Before they could take much action at all, Rick shoots both of the men as they fall to their death. It’s still an early point in the series, but Rick has already started showing his vicious and brutal side. He’s not looking to mess around and he isn’t going to take anyone’s crap.

This is one of Rick’s greatest moments because he didn’t hesitate to remove people who mean to hurt him out of the way. He won’t stand for it because the apocalypse doesn’t give you that luxury, and if you’re not with him, then you’re against him.
