No. 2: The Birth of Richonne

Season 6, Episode 10: “The Next World”

The birth of Richonne is a bittersweet moment and the start of a beautiful relationship. Why is it such a great one for Rick? Up until this point, Rick had lost a lot and having lost his wife some time back, it had been hard to wrap his head around the idea of a serious relationship. Michonne gave him the strength and stability he so needed, and their dynamic just worked, perhaps better than his Lori’s ever did.

In this episode, Richonne officially came to be, and it was glorious and beautiful. After meeting Jesus for the first time, Daryl and Rick brought this then-stranger back with them. They didn’t know he’d become an ally, but we’re so glad they didn’t kill him before getting that opportunity. After a hectic day, Rick Grimes and Michonne sit together on the couch reflecting on crazy their day was.

A look turns into hand-holding which turns into kissing, a lot of kissing. Their night takes them to the bed, and that pretty much confirms their status as Richonne. The whole world erupted in celebration because many had been waiting for this moment to take place. It was an exciting moment for all, and it brought them together as a team, something Rick desperately needed. Michonne became his voice of reason, and it’s a good thing because the worst was yet to come.

Together, Rick Grimes and Michonne would face a lot of adversity, but they would have each other’s back. This is why the birth of Richonne is such a great moment for Rick, he made the right decision in the pursuit of love, and it was the best one he had made in the apocalypse.
