No. 1: Rick Makes the Ultimate Sacrifice

Season 9, Episode 5: “What Comes After”

This episode was a rough one for the fans, cast, and crew. After it was announced that Andrew Lincoln would be leaving The Walking Dead, it was a very difficult moment for everyone to process. The days of Rick Grimes would be over–at least for now. He may not be a part of the series anymore, but his final moments on it were some of his greatest.

After getting hurt, this episode took Rick Grimes through a journey of everything that had happened since the apocalypse began. It was a rough road, but his reflections proved one thing, Rick had all he could do to protect his loved ones. As he escaped a herd after being impaled with rebar, Rick stumbled towards his loved ones. He barely made it, but it wasn’t enough to keep him around.

During his final moments (at least, that’s what everyone else thinks), Rick made the decision to blow up the bridge that the walkers were crossing. If he let them come in, things would take a turn for the worst, so he did what he had to do. He blew up the bridge and went down flames blazing. We nursed our broken hearts until we realized he’s not dead! He lives and is being taken away by Jada in a helicopter.

We will see Rick Grimes again one day soon, but until then, we will remember all his greatest moments on The Walking Dead and he will forever remain in our hearts. He may be gone, but he is not forgotten.
