No. 9: Tomas Tries (and Fails) to Overtake the Prison
Season 3, Episode 2: “Sick”
The one where Rick takes a machete to someone’s head. How gruesome was this?! We told you the early days were some of the most vicious of our group’s. While at the prison, things got a bit chaotic between the walkers and Hershel’s infected leg. But there was something else more sinister taking place within the prison walls–there were still prisoners there!
These five prisoners didn’t know just how bad it had gotten out there, but one of them, Tomas, believed that the prison was their sanctuary. The group needed to go and let these five prisoners stay because it’s their domain, at least according to Tomas. A stubborn and adamant Rick wasn’t for this because they had worked hard to make the prison theirs, and there was no way it was getting handed over now.
Rick offered them a different cell block to live in and even offered to split the supplies and even give them some weapons to fight off the walkers. It sounds like a pretty solid deal considering they have no idea who these guys are, but it wasn’t enough for Tomas. He attempts to murder Rick at least two times so what comes next, he sort of had it coming.
After the walker pandemonium settled down, Rick confronted Tomas about what he tried to pull. Of course, Tomas had his reasons/excuses. but they weren’t enough to appease Rick. Once again with a machete, Rick takes it and drives right into Tomas’ skull. It’s a ruthless, jarring moment because the guy had it coming, but it’s one of our first glimpses at Rick taking things to the next level.
