No. 8: Rick Vows to Kill Negan

Season 7, Episode 16: “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life”

This Negan/Rick moment gives us chills to this day. Negan was always eager to break down Rick’s spirit, and willing to go to any lengths to break him, but there is this one moment where despite his weakness Rick prevails. Just as Negan attempt to take Carl’s life, Rick has a few things he’d like to say. Side note: It’s probably the scariest Rick has been towards Negan, and it’s something that even takes Negan by surprise.

"I told you already, I’m going to kill you, all of you. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow… but nothing is going to change that, nothing. You’re all already dead."

Dangggg Rick! No one tries to threaten his son and gets away with it–not even Negan! This isn’t the first time Rick tries to confront Negan but it is the first time he does it knowing just how evil he is, and how horrible his intentions are. Yet, he proceeds to do his thing away, and it made us fall in love with Rick all over again.

What is so iconic about this moment is the way in which Rick says what he says. Negan, by all intents and purposes, had the upper hand at that moment. But it didn’t stop Rick from saying what he had to, because enough was enough. The look on Negan’s face gave away that even he was starting to question if Rick was weak enough to break. No sir, no one can break our dear Rick, they can get close, but they won’t succeed!
