The good stuff from TWD 916

  1. Honoring the fallen. Seeing tributes to Henry, Tara, and others during the opening sequence of the episode was nice considering viewers recently lost so many of the characters they’ve grown to enjoy over the course of the season. The part about Henry was exceptionally moving.
  2. Daryl being protective. Hearing Alden get snippy with Lydia about what the Whisperers did to form the northern boundary touched a nerve with Daryl. He immediately jumped to help Lydia. Maybe it’s because he knows Lydia isn’t bad. Maybe it’s something to do with his own childhood. But he sure jumped to act fast.
  3. Carol with the save. Lydia seemed ready to give up. After shunning her mother and the Whisperers and feeling unwelcome from other survivors, she nearly let a walker bite her until she heard Carol appear on the scene. Without saying a word, Lydia stopped and took her arm back, rejoining the survivors. And she even stopped when Lydia was begging for death, helping her get back to the group.
  4. Together they are stronger. While talking, Michonne and Ezekiel came to the realization that they are much more powerful as a unit than they are as individuals. While this seems obvious, trying to protect your own people feels like a priority, but as Judith has said: You protect the ones you love.
  5. Negan risking it all. When you’re a prisoner of a group, leaving to find a girl and a dog might not be the best idea. As soon as he realized Judith was in trouble after going after Dog, he ran to help, giving up his coat to keep her warm. Even with a wound on his leg, he was more concerned about the well-being of Judith.
  6. They have arrived and received. The storm has ended and the group has arrived at the Hilltop. Not losing anyone along the way was a big step in relocation but even bigger is that there is an unknown voice on the radio, a feminine voice which fans will need to speculate about during the offseason.
