The Walking Dead season 9 finale recap: The Storm
At the Sanctuary Daryl finds Carol on the steps and asks if she’s ok. She says she is, and he tells her that they are going to make it. She asks about his moment with Ezekiel, but Daryl doesn’t say anything. Carol says Ezekiel blames Daryl because he won’t blame her. She’s losing herself again, and she’s trying to hang on, but she doesn’t know what’s she’s doing. Daryl offers to take Lydia away from there, but he doesn’t want to leave there. Lydia hears them talking, and she hears when Daryl asks what Carol wants him to do.
Ezekiel tells Michonne that the storm could last for while but they don’t have enough food. They could go to the next outpost, but they might die trying. Aaron says that Rick’s bridge would have saved them but they will have to find another way. Carol says they can walk across a frozen pond, and she points to a hunting area. The problem is that it’s in the middle of Alpha’s territory. Carol points out that they never agreed to those boundaries, and Yumiko says the Whisperers might already know they have moved. Michonne says that if they don’t move, they could die.
Later, Michonne apologizes to Ezekiel that there isn’t another way. He wants to help his people. The Kingdom fell and he should have moved sooner. She says his people wouldn’t have made it without him. She thought being apart made them stronger, but the fact that they didn’t know each other made it possible for Alpha to walk among them. She says the Kingdom hasn’t fallen, they are here. They’re all one people and they will make it. Michonne says the key is crossing when the Whisperers can’t see them.
The group heads out. They pass the hill with the pikes on it and Ezekiel pauses to reflect. Carol walks up and stands with him, then she keeps going as Daryl walks by. Lydia stops at Henry’s pike, and soon everyone has passed through them.
