The Walking Dead season 9 finale recap: The Storm
Michonne pays a visit to Negan in the infirmary. She thanks him for saving Judith, making fun of his “flair for the dramatic.” He says the last time he was there was when Rick cut his throat open. Negan calls Judith a “spitfire” and that Michonne has dealt with enough. She moves to leave, but Negan asks if everyone was ok. He doesn’t know the people of the Kingdom but he knows what it’s like to lose a kingdom. She says the Sanctuary is a mess, and he laughs that he could have told her that. He’s impressed that they cut through the Whisperers’ territory.
Michonne pulls up a chair, telling Negan that they don’t know if the Whisperers were there, but they came together and made it. Michonne says they came together and were stronger for it, but he reminds her that the enemy never sees himself as an enemy. This gives Michonne pause.
The Whisperers, as it happens, did not have to deal with the snow. They are in warmer climes. They have a new camp. There are new skins and Beta is there removing Alpha’s new mask with long blond hair. He says being away was good for the pack, and she says that it made her stronger for “what comes next.” She strips away the leaves of a switch and holds out her arm so he can whip her with it. She takes it silently.
Ezekiel speaks into the radio. He says that they will come through this at Hilltop. They’re with family, and summer will bring better things. On the other end Judith says maybe they will be able to go back to the Kingdom. She has to go do homework, but she will say hi for him.
They end the call. Suddenly the radio crackles. It’s a voice that sounds female. “Is anybody out there?” it asks.
The Walking Dead will return for season 10 in October 2019.
