Living as a member of the Whisperers can’t be easy. You’re out in the heat wearing a mask of human skin while constantly being on the move. However, it’s also scary to have Alpha as your leader.
One interesting part of the Whisperers way of life is their system of leadership. Any leader can be challenged and, if victorious, can become the new leader of the group. But a fight to the death isn’t always smart.
Sean challenged Alpha after she broke the Whisperers’ code by going to the Hilltop to get Lydia. She took that challenge and projected it onto Helen, who stood up to Alpha. Moving behind her subordinate, she used a wire to behead Helen on the spot.
Picking up the head and handing it to Sean, Alpha warned Sean about the challenge and not to look weak. However, she stabbed him in the side anyway, killing him as well, meaning Alpha remained the leader and put on a display to deter anyone else thinking of stepping to her.
