Fear the Walking Dead season 5: An old friend returns
The Fear the Walking Dead season 5 trailer premiered during the panel at WonderCon 2019, revealing the surprise return of an old friend.
The wait is finally over: Fear the Walking Dead season 5 will premiere on Sunday, June 2. The trailer has been released and not only does it look absolutely epic, but there’s an old friend who is back in season 5 after a long absence.
The last time we saw Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades) he was on the dam with Nick when it exploded at the end of season 3. Since then he has been missing in action, only to show up in the trailer for season 5.
This isn’t the first time Daniel has gone missing. He was believed dead after he set Cecilia’s chamber of infected family and friends on fire. At the time he was suffering from delusions; Daniel, missing his wife, believed that he was seeing her while he set everything on fire. It wasn’t until he showed up again in the second half of season 3 that we learned he was alive.
If you can say one thing about Daniel Salazar, it’s that he’s like a chameleon and an escape artist rolled into one. At this point he has lost his wife and daughter, so he doesn’t have anything to lose and that makes him a possible threat to our group after they parted on not-so-great terms. Perhaps learning of Nick and Madison’s deaths will help him to see that everything has changed, and that everyone is in a much different place. Perhaps this will give him a reason to join up with the group if they offer him a place among them.
Fear the Walking Dead season 5 sees Morgan and the group of survivors on a mission to help people. The problem is that even though they’re in the middle of the apocalypse there are still people out there who don’t want help. A big challenge is finding people who not only need help but who want it.
What’s interesting about having Daniel show up at this point is that he likely wouldn’t approve of “wasting” resources on people who haven’t asked for help. Always pragmatic, the former soldier knows better than to waste supplies when they’re so scarce. He might also find it hard to embrace Morgan’s pacifist philosophies.
We don’t know when Daniel will show up in season 5, we don’t know what he’s doing or why he shows up and we don’t know how long he’ll be around, but regardless it will be great to have Ruben Blades back on the show.
Fear the Walking Dead will return for season 5 on June 2, 2019.
