AMC is giving fans another look at The Walking Dead world with a new spinoff that is set to debut in 2020.

EW  gave The Walking Dead fans a nice surprise to start the week by revealing the arrival of a second spinoff of The Walking Dead. The new spinoff is being developed and produced by Scott Gimple and longtime The Walking Dead writer and producer Matthew Negrete. Having two people who are so steeped in The Walking Dead universe creating the show should make the new show fit seamlessly into TWD world that fans know and love.

The new show will focus on two female protagonists who have to learn to navigate the brutal post-apocalypse world. AMC’s official release says that the show:

"“will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”"

The new spinoff will start production in Virginia this summer and the debut is tentatively set for early 2020. There’s no word yet on any casting or where in Virginia the show will film. When the new spinoff stars filming there will be two The Walking Dead shows filming at the same time this summer. Filming for the mothership show starts next month in Georgia. And the new season of Fear The Walking Dead airs in June so it looks like TWD fans finally will get their dream of having TWD shows on the air all year long.

Two Spinoffs, Movies, And More?

The Walking Dead universe is expanding at a very rapid rate, and some people will no doubt question if there is really a large enough fanbase to support so many different projects set within The Walking Dead universe. But heading into season 10 The Walking Dead is still the most popular drama on cable and the most in-demand show in the world.

Like any show the fanbase will ebb and flow but there’s something about the post-apocalypse world that Robert Kirkman created that hits a nerve for people. They’re fascinated with this universe and love to be immersed in it. The Walking Dead fanbase is ready to devour any new show or film that shows them another part of the apocalypse world.
