Fear the Walking Dead: National Siblings Day salute to Sarah and Wendell
Sarah and Wendell brought smiles and laughs to the apocalypse in season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead, and so we salute them on National Siblings Day.
They’re the wisecracking, beer loving, truck driving and possibly unlikeliest of duos in the zombie apocalypse, but Fear the Walking Dead stars Sarah and Wendell are the best siblings out there. They have each other’s backs, and from the look of things it has been that way long before the dead started walking around. We don’t know a lot about their past, but on National Siblings Day we’re celebrating Sarah and Wendell as one of the most dynamic sibling duos in the apocalypse.
Fans first met Sarah (Mo Collins) and Wendell (Daryl “Chill” Mitchell) in “The Code” and at first it was hard to tell if the siblings could be trusted. They’re definitely out to protect each other, first and foremost. When the tension eased up it was clear that like everyone else in the apocalypse they were just trying to figure out if they could trust Morgan. Once you make it inside the circle of trust they have your back, always. They also live by a code, and it’s that you have to help each other.
The brother and sister duo had been riding around in their mack truck full of supplies when they came across Morgan at the mini-mart in Mississippi. (Technically it was Wendell who came upon Morgan, who was so rudely using the handicapped stall in the men’s room) Eventually Morgan came upon Jim, who claimed he’d been captured by Sarah and Wendell, which cast doubt upon their intentions. Though it was technically true that he’d been kidnapped, the reality is that they wanted the master brewer to keep working his magic because beer is a luxury in the apocalypse.
By the end of season 4, Sarah and Wendell have became valued members of the team. They have been a wonderful addition to the cast because they remind everyone to laugh every now and then. You have to. You simply can’t take life too seriously. But don’t mistake their lighthearted approach to the apocalypse for weakness. They can kick some serious butt.
Sarah and Wendell are proof that just because things have fallen apart it doesn’t mean you can’t keep smiling. Making jokes in the face of so much death and destruction is a coping mechanism and it works for them. It also helps ease the tension with everyone around them, and that’s a huge bonus because our group of traveling survivors has been through a lot.
For National Siblings Day 2019 we salute Sarah and Wendell, and we can’t wait to see them in action again when Fear the Walking Dead returns for season 5 on June 2.
