Danai Gurira catapulted into superstardom with her roles in The Walking Dead and Black Panther, but Avengers: Endgame will change everything.

By the end of April 2019, Danai Gurira might have another distinction to add to her already impressive list of accomplishments and accolades. By that point, Avengers: Endgame will have been in theaters long enough to shatter almost every box office record in existence as it moves toward becoming the highest grossing movie in cinematic history, and that means even more success for a beloved member of The Walking Dead family.

Avengers: Endgame is coming April 26 and fans have been eagerly anticipating the movie that reveals what happened following Thanos’ storied snap in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. Endgame also serves as the final act for Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the launching point for Phase Two. In effect, Endgame will change everything.

Danai Gurira made a huge splash when she debuted as Okoye, leader of the fierce Dora Milaje in the 2018 hit Black Panther. Had it not been for Infinity War, Black Panther would have ruled the 2018 box office, but Black Panther’s prowess on the award circuit made up for it in a big way as the Marvel hit became the first comic book movie to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, and it took home an Oscar for Best Original Music Score.

Endgame might not be Academy Award caliber (as far as we know) but it will change everything for its stars, especially those moving on to sequels in the post-Endgame universe. Black Panther 2 is already in the works, of course, but as the only “surviving” member of the Wakanda Royal Family after Infinity War, Gurira’s role in Endgame means that she will be the one representing Black Panther. This will no doubt lead to a bigger role for Okoye in the Black Panther sequel.

Gurira’s busy schedule means that she will have to cut ties with The Walking Dead in season 10, at least for now. Current rounds of speculation suggest that Michonne might fade away from the main show to join up with Rick in one of the feature films. If that’s the case, the character might not be killed off and instead could be written out temporarily.

For the time being, however, The Walking Dead fans can help celebrate Gurira’s Endgame success while resting assured that we’ll still see Michonne in season 10 (and perhaps beyond). It’s a win-win for Gurira fans, and we’re so thrilled to see this multi-talented actress enjoying so much success.

Avengers: Endgame arrives in theaters on April 26 and The Walking Dead will return for season 10 this fall.
