The augmented reality mobile game The Walking Dead: Our World kicked some butt at the Webby Awards, winning three trophies at the 23rd annual event.

When The Walking Dead: Our World was announced, many fans thought it was a way to take advantage of the highly successful augmented reality market using a property with an established fan base.

It turns out the mobile game is much more than that. Since its release on July 12, 2018, the game has been getting a lot of attention from fans as well as critics who enjoy seeing their favorite AMC characters helping to eliminate the undead.

More praise came for The Walking Dead: Our World when it was announced that it had been nominated in three categories at the Webby Awards, going up against some stiff competition with other great apps.

On April 24, 2019, the winners at the 23rd Annual Webby Awards were announced and the mobile game won in all three categories, including one voted on by fans. Here are the categories where Our World got wins:

  • Technical Achievement
  • Best Use of Augmented Reality
  • People’s Voice Award for Best Use of Augmented Reality

The one category where the game wasn’t able to get a victory was Best Game Design, which ended up going to Florence with Astroneer earning the People Choice Award. However, it is still great to see a video game based on the popular AMC zombie survival drama series getting love at an awards program…especially when that means bringing home three trophies.

Congratulations to Next Games, AMC, Skybound, and The Walking Dead on being recognized for their accomplishments with The Walking Dead: Our World and hopefully the AR game can continue to be among the industry leaders for a long, long time.
