Fear the Walking Dead star Danay Garcia will screen her movie The Cure at opening night of the Baja California International Film Festival.

June is going to be a huge month for Fear the Walking Dead star Danay Garcia. Not only will Luciana make her return in season 5 on June 2, but Garcia’s film The Cure is screening on opening night at the Baja California International Film Festival, which runs June 20 through June 26 at the Centro Cultural Tijuana.

The Cure is a true labor of love for Garcia. Not only did she write the screenplay, she co-directed the film with Leandro Arvelo and served as producer with her production company This Is Happening. The film stars Rafael Sigler, Liliana Moreno, Ivan Leano and Mirna Bustamante.

Screening a film at any festival is an honor, but screening on opening night is a big deal and it’s a much-deserved honor for Garcia, who has poured so much hard work, love and energy into this project. And this is likely the start of exciting things to come for The Cure, which has been entered into several festivals on the circuit.

Here’s the synopsis of The Cure:

"A small town in Mexico begins to feel the effects of an unknown disease moving across the region, forcing the local pastor to question his faith and make an ethical decision that will impact the lives of everyone in his village. The death of a young girl and an offer from a sinner seeking redemption forces the pastor to search deep within himself for an answer on how to best serve his followers. As the pastor grapples with this decision and his sins from a former life, he struggles to separate right from wrong as the fate of an entire community rests in his morally-challenged hands."

There’s no question that fans of Fear the Walking Dead will be drawn to the themes in The Cure. Both the show and the film deal with the moral and ethical dilemmas that come with facing life-threatening situations and the tough decisions that must be made as a result.

While Garcia is preparing for the festival, fans will have a chance to see Luciana in action once again when Fear the Walking Dead returns. The season 5 trailer has revealed a whole new world for the survivors, with plenty of new faces and new threats. And there’s something about Luciana and an accordion that has our attention….
