Prediction: Michael Cudlitz comedy The Kids are Alright will be renewed
With so much competition for audience eyeballs, it’s hard for new shows to catch on but the Michael Cudlitz comedy The Kids are Alright should get a second season.
ABC is moving toward its upfront presentation on May 14 and that’s when the network will announce its schedule for the 2019-2020 television season. Freshman comedy The Kids are Alright, starring The Walking Dead alum Michael Cudlitz, has been performing well enough to earn a second season.
The Kids are Alright follows the Cleary family as they navigate being an Irish-Catholic family in 1970s America. Cudlitz plays Mike Cleary, the family patriarch who works hard to make sure that his wife and eight sons all have a good life. The show follows in the same style of The Wonder Years but with a definite comedic approach to life’s ups and downs.
According to TV Series Finale, The Kids are Alright is averaging a 0.87 rating in the key 18-49 demographic. The show premiered with a 1.42 and has enjoyed a solid run up until the past few weeks where the show’s ratings have fallen between 0.61 and 0.66. Given the show’s average ratings, though, there’s every reason to believe that it will get picked up for a second season. There are four episodes left in the first season, and the
Cudlitz will return to The Walking Dead once again in season 10 as he steps behind the camera for a second time. In season 9 Cudlitz became the first actor from the show to direct an episode. His episode, “Stradivarius,” was a major turning point for the show in season 9 and it was great having Cudlitz back even if Abraham Ford is no longer with us.
Fans will learn the fate of The Kids are Alright as we move closer to the May 14 upfront presentation, and the season finale is set for May 21.
The Kids are Alright airs Tuesdays at 8:30pm on ABC.
