So far, The Walking Dead has been exploring the American South as well as northern Mexico, but should the locations venture out of the comfortable setting?

The Walking Dead is a global phenomenon. The two shows on AMC, comic books, video games, webisodes, mobile apps, board games, toys, and other products are enjoyed by fans all around the world.

Recently, a third television show based on the property was announced and the speculation is that it will be focused on a group of strong female survivors attempting to make their way in the zombie apocalypse in Virginia.

The problem is that Virginia is a bit familiar now. With the original show being set in that area right now and Fear The Walking Dead exploring the other part of the American South as well as some of Mexico, the show will have a feel very similar to the others.

Whether or not that is a good thing is debatable.

It’s nice when a companion series has a similar feel, but there is also something to be said for setting the show in a new place which may appeal to viewers in other locations around the world as well as give the show more of a global perspective instead of making it feel like something exclusive to North America.

One of the most interesting times in Fear The Walking Dead is when the show took a trip to Mexico. The differences in cultures, as well as architecture and scenery, were a pleasure to watch and made the series feel fresh and different from anything the franchise has done before.

Interesting places to explore in the future include locations where English is still the primary language but would also feel fresh. Places such as South Africa, England, Australia, Ireland, and  New Zealand would all be ideal locations to feature.

Of course, the downside is that filming would be difficult if AMC still wants to produce their shows in North America. The cost of setting up a new place to shoot in one of those countries would be high, but considering the franchise is still going strong and expanding into new shows and movies means the channel could afford to be a bit more ambitious.

AMC calls themselves a “content company” and they should give fans something unique while staying inside the confines of The Walking Dead universe. Hopefully, they can deliver some more fresh and interesting ideas in their upcoming projects to breathe more fresh air into the franchise.
