Just two days before their upfront presentation, ABC dropped the axe on Lauren Cohan’s Whiskey Cavalier after one season, but there is some hope.

Whiskey Cavalier never really caught on in its Wednesday night time slot, though ratings picked up each week in delayed viewings. Evidently, though, the delayed views weren’t enough to save Whiskey Cavalier from cancellation, though Warner Bros seems to indicate that the fate of Lauren Cohan’s series isn’t sealed just yet.

According to Deadline, ABC’s decision not to renew Whiskey Cavalier reportedly comes with WBTV’s vow to shop the rom-com action show elsewhere. Whiskey Cavalier was ABC’s biggest show coming into the 2018-2019 season, so much so that they debuted it after the Oscars. The show, though cleverly written with lots of fantastic settings around the world, never caught on with viewers: The most recent ratings pegged it at 0.4 for a season low.

It’s possible, though, that the show will be able to find life elsewhere. There’s a definite international appeal thanks to the locations, and stars Scott Foley and Lauren Cohan both have huge international fanbases. The show could find great success on a streaming service, surely, or WBTV might hold out and keep it for the upcoming Warner Bros streaming service that is coming soon from the studio giant.

Lauren Cohan’s future remains in flux now that Whiskey Cavalier has been cancelled but isn’t off the market just yet. She will no doubt remain attached to the show through a certain point, and if the show hasn’t been snatched up by the time her contract runs out then she will be free to pursue other projects.

So much uncertainty means that it’s too early to speculate how this news might impact Cohan’s return in The Walking Dead season 10. AMC maintains that there’s a spot for her should she desire to come back and Cohan herself doesn’t feel like Maggie’s story is finished, so hopefully she will be back sooner than later.

Stay tuned because the Whiskey Cavalier saga is far from over as the television upfront presentations continue and WBTV tries to find a new home for the show.
