There are lots of new faces in season 5 of Fear the Walking Dead, but there’s one furry face that already has fans talking ahead of the season premiere.

By now all of you die-hard Fear the Walking Dead fans have surely seen multiple trailers for the highly anticipated new season, and boy is there a lot to unpack! But one little (truly little) detail may have gone unnoticed – was that a cat?!?

Yes, you may have spied an adorable little orange tabby cat make his or her small screen debut in the first official trailer released way back in March at WonderCon.  We first see our feline friend getting all the pats from our fearless survivors including Strand and Sarah, seated around a table in what looks to be some sort of warehouse around the 1:56 mark of the trailer. Watch it here:

We then see the little creature again at the 2:21 mark outside of a window, possibly trying to get inside of a building.  The very next shot in the trailer is of some Walkers looking back out menacingly at the cat.

Obviously this could be edited, but this kitty gets credit for sticking the little paw up at some terrifying looking walkers, and if that really is the scene – props to this brave furball already!

Now historically, animals don’t typically fare well in the Walking Dead universe (RIP Shiva) but, given the love that many fans have for Dog – Daryl’s super awesome compadre on The Walking Dead, could this cute little feline stick around for a while on Fear?

If any group of survivors could keep this cat alive, it’s this group.  They have the resources to help creatures great and small.  Think of the joy this cat could bring to Morgan, Charlie, and oh especially Strand- he seems like a quintessential cat person.

Animals represent some semblance of hope, purity and normalcy in this bleak universe, which might be why fans adore Dog so much. This little kitty is bound to garner the same rabid (pun intended) fan base when he/she makes an appearance on Fear the Walking Dead.

Here’s to hoping the powers that be decide to keep the goodest boy on The Walking Dead for a long long time (meaning Dog of course, but Daryl too!), and the coolest cat in town for a long while on Fear the Walking Dead as well.  Let’s hope that the writers can come up with a better name for him/her than Cat.  Any ideas? Let me know what you think!
