Season 4 of Fear The Walking Dead brought big changes, new fan favorite characters, and a crossover. Here are the episodes you need to watch to be ready for season 5.

Fear The Walking Dead’s fourth season was almost a soft reboot. With new showrunners and writers, new characters and cast members, and a crossover of a fan favorite character from The Walking Dead season 4 set Fear on a new course.

While the changes were difficult for some fans to adapt to many felt that season 4 of the show was the best season so far, and it looks like season 5 is going to be fantastic as well. Every episode of season 4 is worth watching because the show plays around with time this season and provides some essential backstory in some of the episodes.

The new look and feel of the show made the show seem a lot darker and a lot grittier. There is a lot of subtlety to the new look and a higher quality to the visuals in the show that give the show a more apocalyptic feel.

And of course there are new villains, new friends, and new tests of survival that the group will overcome. Some of them don’t make it through those tests and more than one major character doesn’t make it out of season 4.

However, if you can’t watch all of season 4 before the premiere of season 5 of Fear The Walking Dead on June 2 you can caught up on the major changes and new additions to the show by watching these essential episodes recommended by our panel:

Fear The Walking Dead Season 4 Essential Episodes

What are your picks for the best or essential episodes of season 4?

Sonya says:

"I had a really hard time with this because I loved everything about this season. But if you’re short on time and can’t get through them all I think the ones to watch are 401 “What’s Your Story?”, 403 “Good Out Here”, 404 “Buried”, 405 “Laura”, 408 “No One’s Gone”, 410 “Close Your Eyes”, and 415 “I Lose People”. There are some fantastic bottle episodes this episode that do a great job with character development and they are worth watching."

Sara says:

"I have to pick 401 “What’s Your Story?”. This is the premiere episode in season 4, and it is the perfect introduction to the new characters joining the show. There are also some appearances by The Walking Dead favs. The tone of this first episode is very dark and mysterious. It was themed so appropriately with the mystery and suspense that unfolds during the rest of the season."

Jeffrey says:

"My choice is 410 “Close Your Eyes”. This episode features two of the strongest performances in the entire series. It’s very dark but also cathartic for two of the characters that are really struggling and have to make a choice to live or die. It’s a fantastic episode."

Renee says:

"I agree with everyone else that 401 “What’s Your Story?” is essential to understanding the new direction of the show. It’s also a fantastic introduction for one of the new characters who became an instant fan favorite and the crossover of a major character from The Walking Dead in this episode was really fun."
