These days there are quite a few connections between members of The Walking Dead universe and other franchises, and one connection just got bigger.

Depending on who you ask, clowns are more terrifying than zombies. (I know I’m not the only one to feel that way!) The Walking Dead universe is known for some terrifying walkers, to be sure, and the American Horror Story franchise gave us one of the most terrifying (albeit misunderstood) clowns of all time. As it happens, the newest member of the Fear the Walking Dead cast adds a new layer to the connection between The Walking Dead universe and American Horror Story.

Cooper Dodson, the young actor who plays Dylan in season 5 of Fear the Walking Dead, might look familiar to AHS fans after his role as Oz Mayfair-Richards in American Horror Story Cult. Oz was obsessed with clowns despite his mother’s extreme coulrophobia. In fact, just seeing the comic books was enough to send Sarah Paulson’s Ally Mayfair-Richards into a stupor. The clown featured in the comics was none other than Twisty the Clown.

Twisty the Clown debuted to much fanfare in season 4’s American Horror Story Freakshow. Twisty, played to perfection by John Carroll Lynch, became such a fan favorite as the tragic clown who just wanted to make people happy that he came back to reprise the role in season 7’s Cult.

The Walking Dead fans know Lynch as Eastman from season 6 episode 4’s “Here’s Not Here.” This was a major episode for Lennie James’ Morgan, as Eastman is the one who helped Morgan return from the brink. He’s also the one who taught Morgan everything he knows about fighting with the staff.

Now, the circle completes itself as Dodson and James come together in Fear the Walking Dead season 5. We have Marvel connections, Deadwood connections, Supernatural connections and a ton of Once Upon a Time connections to The Walking Dead universe so this little triad fits in quite nicely. Let’s just hope Twisty the Clown doesn’t show up…

Fear the Walking Dead returns for season 5 on June 2.
