Fear the Walking Dead season 5 premiere recap: Here to Help
Fear the Walking Dead returns for season 5 with “Here to Help.” The group ends up in a strange place with danger lurking everywhere. Here’s your recap of episode 501.
The season premiere begins in the middle of the action with two brothers in the woods. The older brother, Max, is teaching his younger brother to hunt deer, promising that the noise will be louder than when their father’s grill exploded. Young Dylan manages to hit the deer, but the sound catches the attention of nearby walkers. They’re about to flee when an airplane comes flying over. It’s going to crash, and it does.
The boys run over to the crash site and find boxes all over, some in flames, with walkers (they call them “growlers”) all over. (The boxes have a familiar message written on them – they’re the mile marker boxes from Clayton’s cache) The walkers are about to overtake the boys when Alicia appears. “It’s ok. We’re here to help,” she says, telling them to go inside before she goes and mows down the walkers with one of the plane’s busted propeller blades. She’s absolutely unstoppable, and the boys watch in stunned silence as she works.

(The new credits feature a night scene with mountains in the distance and a storm rolling in. There are trees on either side of the clearing with smoldering remnants of the crashed plane in the foreground. When the title appears it, too, is burning.)
The boys go inside the plane as ordered and they find Morgan hanging upside down in the cargo bay. They poke him and he wakes up, just as a walker comes inside. He fights it off with an assist from John Dorie, who shoots it. Morgan asks if the kids are with Logan, but they aren’t. Luciana wakes up and Morgan and John find that she has been impaled by a metal rod.
John goes off in search of Al and June in the cockpit while Morgan recruits young Dylan to put pressure on Luci’s wound while he goes off to help Alicia. He advises them to shoot anything that’s dead.
June is hanging sideways in the cockpit with a walker grabbing at her face. When she wakes up she sees that Al is still out cold and they are strapped in so they’re sitting ducks. Thankfully John arrives to save the day and June holds her hand to the glass in a sign of greeting to him.
