Fear The Walking Dead: Who is the group that took Althea and Rick Grimes
By Sonya Iryna
In a shocking twist Althea was taken by the same group that took Rick Grimes. Our panel discusses what this means for the future of Fear The Walking Dead and TWD.
At the end of the Fear The Walking Dead season 5 premiere “Here To Help” Althea was investigating something unusual at the plane crash site when she was tazed and taken by someone in armor. The documents she found at the site were marked with the same symbol that was seen on the helicopter that took Rick and Jadis when Rick disappeared on The Walking Dead.
That was a huge twist that indicates that the stories of The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead have the potential to merge or at least overlap more than they do in the future. Rick Grimes is gone from The Walking Dead but there is a series of movies in the works about Rick Grimes and what happened to him after he was taken away in a helicopter along with Jadis.
Now there are even more questions about this mystery group. Everyone assumed that the group was located in or near what was D.C. and it was widely speculated that the group was a group known in The Walking Dead comic as the Commonwealth.
But clearly the mysterious group has a larger reach than just the D.C. and Virginia areas if they are in Texas and were able to take Althea. The map that Althea videotaped and the other documents might give some clues about this group’s location although who they are and what they want is still a mystery. Whoever they are they obviously don’t want people poking around in whatever they are doing. Our panel had some opinions about who this group could be and if this means there will be more overlap between the two worlds:
Who Took Althea?
We saw the group that took Rick take Al in this episode. What do you think their story is?
Sonya says:
"They’ve obviously got serious resources and a long reach, so this group isn’t a typical survivor group. Maybe this is what’s left of the government and they’re searching for a cure. They were at a radiation site, so possibly they’re studying the effects of radiation on walkers or something like that. I love where this is going and I can’t wait to see more of this storyline. I would absolutely love to see more characters from the two shows interact."
Sara says:
"I have no clue what is going on but I am very excited to see this bigger story slowly start to piece together now! I definitely think this is a new community, maybe people who are looking to recruit different people for a greater purpose. I’m very exited to find out exactly what is going on. I hope we get to see Althea meet Rick Grimes!"
Jeffrey says:
"I’m so intrigued by the fact that the people who took Rick are now appearing in Fear. I genuinely have no idea who they are or what they are all about, but the fact that they have now taken Althea gives the characters on this show a very personal connection to this group that spans both shows. My guess is that they are some sort of government organization that may be trying to restart society, but have devolved into a more sinister collective as the apocalypse has progressed. I’m really stumped about them, but so excited to learn more."
Renee says:
"Well, first off they must be a HUGE group to be in both D.C. and Texas. Perhaps they are part of the Commonwealth? Obviously a very high tech group by the looks of their uniforms and the maps Althea found on the dead guy."
Ethan says:
"I believe the group that took Rick and captured Althea are a military group that are trying to restore civilization or parts of the US. Or I think they could be ex-soldiers. I see them turning out to be the Commonwealth and because the Commonwealth is so big I think they will skip it on the shows and tell the Commonwealth story in Rick’s movies."
Timothy says:
"Hard to say. I’ve heard rumors they are connected to the group that took Rick from TWD but who knows? I doubt the mystery gets solved quickly."
Sarabeth says:
"I’m convinced that they have a much bigger presence than we realize, and they might be the ones to link the whole universe together. There’s no reason that they can’t be in multiple locations, because they’re clearly armed and have armor so they’re organized somehow. I feel like the explanation is going to be something so much bigger than anyone can imagine just yet."
Who do you think this mysterious group is FearFamily and TWDFamily? Will this group be the connective point between The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead?
