Watch: Trailer for Danay Garcia’s film ‘The Cure’
Danay Garcia reveals the trailer for her movie The Cure, which will kick off the Baja California International Film Festival on June 20.
Fear the Walking Dead star Danay Garcia is a woman of many talents. Fans know her as Luciana, but when she’s not fighting zombies and being a mom she’s running her production company and making movies. Her movie The Cure will headline opening night at the Baja California International Film Festival and now fans can watch the trailer.
The Cure is a passion project for Garcia, who wrote, produced and co-directed the film. “I wrote The Cure during season 3 [of Fear the Walking Dead] while we were filming in Mexico,” she told me in a recent interview. “Here I was, from Cuba, making a movie in Mexico while playing a Mexican character. In fact, I was awarded Mexican residency because I hired a local Mexican crew.”
Garcia noted that all of The Cure’s ties to Mexico are appropriate because the theme of the Baja California International Film Festival is “Art Without Borders” and The Cure certainly embodies the spirit of cross-border collaboration in the best of ways.

Here is the synopsis of The Cure:
"A small town in Mexico begins to feel the effects of an unknown disease moving across the region, forcing the local pastor to question his faith and make an ethical decision that will impact the lives of everyone in his village. The death of a young girl and an offer from a sinner seeking redemption forces the pastor to search deep within himself for an answer on how to best serve his followers. As the pastor grapples with this decision and his sins from a former life, he struggles to separate right from wrong as the fate of an entire community rests in his morally-challenged hands."
While Garcia celebrates The Cure’s achievements, Fear the Walking Dead fans will have to keep watching to see what happens after Luciana was injured in the plane crash during the season 5 premiere. In a clip from episode 502, “The Hurt That Will Happen,” things look dire for Luciana when a herd of walkers show up at the truck stop in the dead of night.
The Baja California International Film Festival begins June 20, with The Cure kicking off opening night. Be sure you’re following Danay Garcia and her production company This Is Happening for updates on The Cure and all of Garcia’s exciting projects.
