Fear the Walking Dead 502 recap: The Hurt That Will Happen
June finds a car with keys and lots of gas. It has a lot of seats, she says. They can save the kids. Luciana calls through and says that she reached Strand, which makes them happy, but the tower fell down. June tells her to go back inside but Luciana insists that she’s fine. A group of walkers comes out of the darkness and Luciana is forced to retreat. She’s still on medication and very unsteady on her feet, but she makes it. She passes out as the walkers beat on the door.
Morgan finds Alicia sleeping in one of the cabins. Alicia acknowledges that Grace was right about the radiation people and she knew she was right but didn’t want to admit it. She’s trying to protect people but she’s failing miserably. She couldn’t find anyone to help on the tapes, she couldn’t stop Al. Morgan knows what it feels like to be lost, admitting that he was stuck. You don’t know it until someone tells you that you’re stuck. He knows the missions haven’t gone the way he hoped but there is a way out. You can’t protect yourself from losing people, and he has tried. The only way to get out is to open the door to the hurt that will happen. That’s what he did. He opened the door and started over again, and that will happen for her as well.
Grace loads up her truck and says she’s going to the caverns to bury the bodies. Morgan asks about his stick again. They offer her a place to stay, offering to help her with her mission. She reveals that she was dosed with massive radiation and her time is limited. They agree to check in if they see any of her friends, and she will call if she spots their friends.
June finds Luciana passed out at the door. Everyone is outside looking at the walkers, only now their heads are hanging from the nearby billboard. The sight doesn’t scare them away but it makes them want to act quickly and leave.

Salazar tells Strand that it’s time for him to leave. Alicia is resourceful like Madison, and Althea is a survivor. He’s not giving him the plane because Strand ends up hurting the people he’s trying to help, as Salazar well knows. He sends Strand out into the darkness with the dead approaching, and Strand picks up a brick and mashes a walker’s head in a rage over his failure.
Fear the Walking Dead continues Sundays at 9pm on AMC.
