Fear TWD 502: Who originally owned Skidmark and the warehouse?
Skidmark’s Name Is A Clue
It’s very clear that Skidmark didn’t belong to Daniel Salazar originally and it has nothing to do with the warehouse full of supplies, rather it’s the name itself that gives it away. “Skidmark” is a mouthful for Spanish speakers. (During a chat with Danay Garcia I ran this theory by her and she absolutely agreed with my logic but confirmed nothing about its validity….) Salazar, given his El Salvadorean roots, would likely not give the cat an English name, or at least not one that would be such a mouthful to pronounce. That means someone else named the cat before Salazar arrived.

If you’re wondering what I mean by “mouthful”, let me take you back to when I was in 7th grade. It was the first day of school and I was enrolled in a Spanish immersion program. All of my classes were taught in Spanish and on that first day my teacher informed me that they wouldn’t be able to call me “Sarabeth” because in Spanish my name is a “mouthful” to say. Instead, they called me “Sara.” I’d never gone by Sara in my life, but years later after studying the language through middle school, high school and college I came to fully understand why my name was so problematic.
The same thing applies to Skidmark. It’s not an easy name for a native Spanish speaker to say, but at this point Salazar isn’t going to change it because that’s the cat’s name. Therefore, Skidmark belonged to someone else.
And if Skidmark belonged to someone else, it’s safe to assume that it was the same person who had the warehouse.
