Who Had Skidmark and the Warehouse Before Salazar?

At this point we know that Clayton, aka “Polar Bear”, had quite a reach in the region. His network extended around mile markers from Texas to Mississippi based on what was revealed in season 4. It could be even bigger than we know.

It’s easy to assume that Skidmark and the warehouse belonged to Clayton because it fits his modus operandi. But that would be a bit too easy. Not only would it be too easy, but there would be a question of how Salazar “inherited” it without knowing Polar Bear’s fate.

The more likely scenario is that there was someone else who was stockpiling supplies, perhaps not for such altruistic reasons as Clayton. Salazar was left in charge after something happened to this mystery person. Salazar could have been in the company of one of the Proctors from the dam who knew the Southwest region and the supply bases there. It could very well have been someone that Salazar met on his journey.

It’s worth noting that Skidmark and Salazar have a connection. Their relationship isn’t a new one. Cats don’t just listen to anyone, so it stands to reason that Salazar has been around long enough to gain the cat’s trust so we can assume that Salazar shared a trusting relationship with Skidmark’s owner, too. Now, in the absence of his original owner, Skidmark is Salazar’s faithful companion.
