Fear the Walking Dead: Ruben Blades really likes Skidmark
The addition of an orange tabby cat on Fear the Walking Dead has been met with great excitement, and Ruben Blades might be the most excited of all.
When an orange cat showed up on the Fear the Walking Dead season 5 trailer, fans were thrilled. That same trailer revealed that Daniel Salazar was coming back and fans were elated. Now we know that the man with nine lives himself is the owner of the adorable cat and the circle has completed itself. And as it happens, Ruben Blades is a huge Skidmark fan.
There’s something very appropriate about Salazar having a cat. Not only does he have a cat, but he has a cat that follows commands. It makes sense on so many levels because like a cat, Salazar has made it out of quite a few life or death situations. He has returned from the dead twice. And he’s cunning and clever like a cat.
In a recent interview with Danay Garcia for Undead Walking, Garcia talked about Blades’ connection to the cat: “Ruben really loves the cat and wishes they were together on a [Fear the Walking Dead] poster. Ruben really likes the story about Salazar having a cat and he’s hoping for a spinoff with Skidmark.”
During her Instagram takeover ahead of the Fear the Walking Dead episode “The Hurt That Will Happen,” which featured the feline’s debut, Garcia shared a behind the scenes photo of Blades wearing a Fear the Walking Dead season 5 cast shirt that prominently features an orange cat across the front of it.

There is a lot to learn about Salazar’s reappearance and we’re hoping to learn more about how Skidmark and the warehouse came into his life. After losing his wife and daughter in the apocalypse, Salazar finally has a companion again. Now that he has Skidmark it’s hard to imagine Salazar without him.
